What is UBC Voyage?
UBC Voyage is a student design team at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. The team is composed of engineering students brought together by a passion for boats and design. Voyage is a diverse team, with members from all engineering disciplines taught at UBC.
What is our mission?
Our mission is to play our part in contributing to a healthier planet through supporting marine research and promoting green transport. We will achieve this by developing a fully autonomous marine research vessel.
What is our project?
Our current project is to build an unmanned research vessel to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The 5 meter ship will be driven by electricity from solar panels, making her energy self-sustainable. In August 2019, the vessel will be the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean autonomously, traveling from St. John’s in Newfoundland to Ireland. After the Transatlantic crossing, we will draw on our experience to optimize the vessel for autonomous marine research.
